PROJECT OVERVIEW

INTRODUCTION

The Wilmette Park District has refreshed this long-ignored treasure, thanks to funds raised by the Ouilmette Foundation. This project included pathway repair and enhancement, improved drainage, plus integrated "nature play" spaces.

EARTH DAY AT KEAY

  • All Ages
  • Saturday, April 22
  • 10 am-Noon
  • Keay Nature Center, Hibbard Rd & Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL 60091
  • FREE FAMILY EVENT

Celebrate Earth Day at Keay! Walk or bike to your neighborhood nature center and join the Park Board in a ribbon cutting for the improvements at Keay. Explore the trails as you learn about nature, plants and trees with a scavenger hunt, or create a bird feeder at our craft station.

No RSVP needed. Parking is limited on site - please plan ahead to walk, bike, or travel up the road from the Community Recreation Center for Romona School - the Earth will thank you! Extend the day and pack a zero-waste picnic to stay after the event and enjoy lunch in the park.

Special thanks to the Ouilmette Foundation for funding the recent upgrades around Keay Nature Center!

*This event may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

As of November, 2022 the project is near completion.

October, 2022: The bid for this project has been approved by the Board, and work is underway. The entire project should be completed by the end of the year, including bump-outs for the nature play areas distributed around the park adjacent to the path.

In June 2022, Superintendent of Parks and Planning Kristi Solberg worked with Gewalt Hamilton Associates to create nature play space designs along the pathways in the park. Read all about the Keay Nature Center project in July's Board Brief e-newsletter, here
