SPORTS MEDLEY

Age 2-3 w/adult

Sign up your little one for the ultimate first time sports experience!  Each week adults will assist their tots as they play a body-challenging sport, improve listening skills, and learn how to follow directions.  A variety of sports such as soccer, t-ball, basketball, and kickball will be explored through fun games and partner play.  This is a great opportunity to get active with your child in a positive and controlled setting.  Bring a labeled water bottle. Wednesday afternoons

Age 2-3 w/adult

We assist parents as they guide their children through exploratory movement, large motor play, and interactive activities. Through obstacle courses, balloons and paddles, ball skills, parachute time, creative exercises, free time play and sports games, children develop body awareness, build social skills, and expand their imaginations. This vivacious age deserves a vivacious and fun class to set the stage for an active, healthy lifestyle! Bring a labeled water bottle. No class: July 1. Saturday mornings

Age 4-5

This indoor and outdoor sports game mini-camp introduces kids to football, basketball, soccer, baseball, floor hockey, kickball, running games and much more. The emphasis will be on the development of teamwork and sportsmanship. Our goal is to teach boys and girls to enjoy playing for the sake of the sport itself. No Class: July 3 &4 Weekday mornings

Let’s play! Your child explores the wide world of sports as they participate in a different sport each week, such as t-ball, track & field, basketball, lacrosse and soccer. Keep active, make new friends and have fun playing in this mini-camp just for girls! This program allows girls to try new skills and achieve goals in an environment tailored just for them. Sports include soccer, kickball, softball, floor hockey, basketball, football and more. Weekday afternoons

Have a blast playing a variety of sports including flag football, baseball, kickball, soccer, capture the flag, and other group games. Each day campers focus on skill development and fundamentals for each respective sport, followed by game play. Weekday morning

Age 7-12

[Illinois Baseball Academy]
This week-long baseball and basketball camp teaches the fundamentals, offensive and defensive philosophy, team building and sportsmanship. A typical day will be divided evenly between baseball and basketball. In addition to working on their baseball and basketball skills, our coaches will oversee daily games, contests and tournaments designed to teach kids how to compete in a healthy way, all while learning the value of commitment and teamwork. Weekday mornings

ARCHERY

You and your child will meet new friends while learning the parts of an arrow and recurve bow; the basics of using the bow; a nationally-recognized beginner’s 9 steps to the 10-ring progression method; and fundamental shooting skills, from an experienced instructor. We provide the blunt-tipped arrows, bows, and targets.

Age 6-13

Archery participants learn the parts of an arrow and recurve bow, the basics of using a recurve bow, and fundamental shooting skills in an extremely safe environment. They also learn an excellent, nationally-recognized beginner’s 9-steps to the 10-ring progression, created by the Coaches Development Committee of the National Archery Association. Both technique and games are part of this class. We provide the blunt-tipped arrows, bows, and targets. We offer Beginner and Advanced Beginner levels. No class: July 1. Saturdays midday, or Thursday afternoons

Age 7-10

[SportsKids]

Participants will learn an excellent, nationally recognized beginner’s 9-step to the 10-ring progression, which was created by the Coaches Development Committee of the National Archery Association. Archery helps participants’ concentration and increases discipline. Campers engage in exciting drills and fun games in this camp; they also learn about archery history and equipment, archery characters in the movies and comics, Olympic archery, archery folk heroes, and other fun archery facts through interesting activities and discussions. We provide all the Recurve bows, blunt-tipped arrows and targets. Please bring a labeled water bottle.

BASEBALL

Age 2-3

Enjoy America’s favorite pastime with your child. Young children develop motor skills while having fun throwing, catching, batting, and base running like the big kids. Parents and their little athletes enjoy making new friends and working together to learn the basics of game play in this exciting class! Bring a labeled water bottle and mitt. No class: July 1. Age 3-5

In this program, young athletes learn baseball fundamentals such as running the bases, throwing, catching, fielding, and hitting the ball off a tee. Exciting drills and games help children learn about teamwork and good sportsmanship, in an atmosphere where participation and fun are top priority. Bring a labeled water bottle and mitt. No class: July 3. Monday afternoons

Age 3-6

[Illinois Baseball Academy]

These one-week camps for boys and girls feature fun drills for learning baseball fundamentals of throwing, fielding, and hitting. Daily baseball games and creative activities are designed to teach sportsmanship, teamwork and respect. Children will gain confidence and improve their coordination. Weekday mornings

 

 

Grade 1-2  (as of the fall 2023 school year) 

This program features a weekly 45-minute practice, followed by a 45-minute game. Participants learn the basics of softball in a fun environment that allows them to develop skills during practice, and then implement them during the game. Coaches pitch during games with emphasis placed on how to field, hit, run the bases, and the basic rules of the game. Teams are formed based on school. We use an 11-inch “softie” softball. Grades 3-9 (as of the fall 2023 school year)

[Hot Shots Sports]
Games will be played on Monday nights at Howard Park and practices will be on Thursday nights at Howard Park. All activity takes place between 5-9 p.m. Teams will be formed based on school and friend requests. The program depends on parents to volunteer for coaching duties. Those interested may email anna@hotshots4kids.com. All players receive a team jersey. Registration deadline is June 6. Practices begin June 16, and games begin June 20. Season ends August 1.

Wrap up your summer with baseball fun! Players improve their skills by revisiting fundamentals with new and challenging drills. We also play plenty of daily baseball games! Players are grouped by age and ability. Weekday mornings

BASKETBALL

Age 3-6

This class is designed to introduce the sport of basketball to children and help them to develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination through fun drills and games. Young hoopsters learn the fundamentals of dribbling, catching and shooting. Bring a labeled water bottle. Instructor: SportsKids Inc. Wednesday afternoons

Grade 4-8 as of 2023-24 school year

[Hot Shots Sports]

Improve shooting technique, confidence, range, speed of release, accuracy, footwork, and your overall shooting percentage! Players also learn how to work at home, develop mental toughness, practice smarter, and other intangibles to become a great shooter. Groups are organized by Grade, and players progress at different rates based on skill level. Weekday afternoons

Age 5-9 and 10-13

[Wilmette Athletics]

Join the Wilmette Athletics coaching staff for our youth basketball clinics! Coaches instruct players through a variety of age- appropriate drills to develop ball handling, shooting form, and court awareness skills. These skills are applied in a variety of fun games including sharks and minnows, dribble knockout, and steal the bacon. Monday Afternoons

FIELD HOCKEY

Grades 5-8

Enjoy a competitive and fun learning environment where girls of all abilities learn basic skills such as dribbling, push passing, receiving, shooting, block tackles and basic elimination skills. We also introduce team concepts such as passing and moving, spacing, and support in this mini-camp. Weekday mornings

FOOTBALL

Age 6-12

[On The Go Sports]
Come play and learn the fundamentals of football from former Northwestern All American and Chicago Bear, Chris Martin. This high energy, non-contact football camp focuses on developing skills of the game, such as: passing, receiving, blocking, routes and more. Campers are organized in age-appropriate groups and take part in daily scrimmages which promote team building in a positive and fun setting. Please bring a labeled water bottle. Weekday mornings

LACROSSE

Age 4-6

Play lacrosse like the big kids! This recreational class for girls and boys will cover basic lacrosse techniques, including cradling, scooping, passing, catching, shooting, and goalie skills. Age-appropriate sized sticks and softer balls will be used for safety. Bring a labeled water bottle. No class: July 3. Tuesday evenings

Age 7-10

Join us to experience one of our fastest-growing sports! Young athletes learn techniques including cradling, passing, catching, shooting, goalie skills, defense, and much more in this recreational program. Players learn and practice the fundamentals through drills and games. We provide the lacrosse sticks. Bring a labeled water bottle. No class: July 3. Tuesday evenings

Age 7-10

[SportsKids]

Come play lacrosse–the fastest game on two feet–with us! In this mini-camp, players learn various lacrosse techniques such as cradling, scooping, passing, catching, shooting, dodging, and goalie skills–the fundamentals any lacrosse player must have! We practice these fundamentals through drills and skill-oriented games in a fast-paced and safe environment. Campers also learn offensive and defensive techniques, and positioning, in this camp. Location: Community Playfields.

MARTIAL ARTS

Age 4-6

[ISKC]

In our Pre-Karate classes, children develop flexibility, strength, and coordination through fun, yet disciplined, activities. This program is specifically designed for growing minds and bodies to enhance memory and agility. Watch your child’s confidence blossom as their skills improve! Uniforms and belt testing are options available through the ISKC instructor. NOTE: beginning students will not be permitted to register into the current session after the second class has met. Parent/Child classes are a great way to spend quality time with your child while conditioning muscles, developing coordination and improving cardiovascular fitness. Uniforms and belt testing are options available through the ISKC instructor. Please note that Youth, Parent/Child and Adult classes may train together. NOTE: fee is for each participant. No class: July 4. Tuesday evenings

Age 6 & up

[Young Tigers Tae Kwon Do]

Basic techniques of Taekwondo, combined with deep breathing exercises, help children develop proper posture, concentration and coordination. Practice of proper manners helps to develop courtesy, self-esteem and self-control. Class is taught in a relaxed and fun environment. Students should wear a martial arts uniform during class (white Taekwondo uniform-dobock, which can be ordered at the class). Instructor Grand Master Kim has more than 50 years of martial arts training, and has been teaching students at the Wilmette Park District since 1998. [Young Tigers Tae Kwon Do]

This class is for beginners who want to learn traditional Taekwondo for self-defense, health, physical fitness and stress release. The instructor emphasizes practice of basic blocks, punches, kicks, stretches and deep breathing. Instructor Grand Master Kim has more than 50 years of martial arts training, and has been teaching students at the Wilmette Park District since 1998. Uniforms can be purchased in class. ADULT PICKLEBALL

Come join the growing trend of pickleball players in our area and learn how to play. Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many aspects of tennis, badminton and ping-pong into one. It is a paddle sport that is compatible for people of all ages and skill levels. This class includes instruction on dinking, partner work, feet movements, lobs, drop shots, serves and more. We play games to reinforce the fundamentals learned. Wednesday mornings or Thursday evenings

Age 3-4

[Coach Abe’s Soccer]

This is a great introduction to the game of soccer, and for young campers to learn the first steps to ball mastery and the necessary building blocks for success in the future. We will teach the following moves to each camper: Stop and Go, Rollbacks, controlled dribbling, dancing on the ball, Beckenbaur and much more. We finish each day with a scrimmage. Weekday mornings

 

Age 4-12

[Coach Abe’s Soccer]

This soccer mini-camp is designed for both the beginner and experienced player. Campers are challenged with moves and soccer games. The following moves will be taught: Zig-Zag dribbling, Tuck and Under, Inside hook, outside hook, the Maradona, Cruff, scissors, and many more. We finish each day with a scrimmage. Location: TBD. Weekday mornings

TRACK AND FIELD

Age 4-6

[SportsKids]

This unique class combines stretching, movement, and other fitness concepts with running, jumping, throwing and other skills used in track and field. Children work on body coordination, agility, balance, and self-confidence. The session concludes with a fun-filled track and field meet on the last day. Please bring a labeled water bottle. No class: July 3. Monday afternoons

Age 7-10

[SportsKids]

This class teaches kids about track and field, one of the oldest sports that continues to grow and is highlighted by the Olympics every four years. Participants learn the jumping, running and throwing skills involved in the sport of track and field. They practice sprints, relays, long-distance walking, running hurdles, long jump, discus throw and other track and field events as well as participate in a fun-filled track and field meet on the last day of the class. Bring a labeled water bottle. Wednesday evenings

Age 7-10

[SportsKids]
Young athletes learn the fundamentals to improve and develop flexibility, proper stretching, body positioning, core strength, balance, and cool-down techniques as they relate to exercising and the jumping, running and throwing skills involved in the sport of track and field. Participate in fitness games like hot lava, freeze game and relay races as well as sprints, long-distance walking, running, hurdles, long jump, and discus throw. Campers have a fun track and field meet on the last day of camp. Please bring a labeled water bottle. Weekday afternoons
