Wilmette Park District Takes the Fun to the Capitol

Posted: July 6, 2023 – Every year, park districts from across Illinois head to Springfield for their annual Legislative Conference activities, including informational booths in the Capitol Rotunda, meetings with local legislators, educational sessions and panel discussions.

This year, Executive Director Steve Wilson, Superintendent of Operations Lindsay Thomas, and Superintendent of Finance Sheila Foy represented the Wilmette Park District at the conference. Panels and discussions included updates on the recreation and conservation issues state legislators acted upon this session, tips for successful state grant application submissions, and how to build successful partnerships with local legislators.

“It is always a great time to visit with fellow park and recreation colleagues,” Wilson said. “And the opportunity to hear from state legislators on how to build strong relationships to advocate and be a part of the legislative process was invaluable – especially as we plan for the future of our Park District.”
