PARK DISTRICT INFORMATION

Accessibility & Inclusion

Everybody Always

Wilmette Park District is committed to providing welcoming, accessible parks, facilities, programs, services and digital content for people of all abilities.

We welcome people with and without disabilities to participate in our programs, activities and events. When a disability creates a barrier to participation, we will work with individuals and families to provide reasonable accommodations and appropriate inclusion support.

If you have an accessibility or inclusion need, please let us know. We are here to help.

Inclusion Services & Reasonable Accommodations

Wilmette Park District provides reasonable accommodations to help individuals with disabilities participate in Park District programs, services and activities.

Requesting an Accommodation

Inclusion services are available at no additional cost to the participant.

When registering for a program, please indicate if an accommodation or inclusion support is needed by selecting, “Yes. Participant requires special accommodations” in the drop-down menu while registering online.

We encourage individuals and families to register and make requests at least two weeks before the start of a program or activity whenever possible. This allows staff time to understand the participant’s needs and coordinate appropriate support. Requests made with less than two weeks’ notice will still be considered. However, additional time may be needed to arrange appropriate accommodations or support.

Wilmette Park District is a public entity subject to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and other applicable federal and state laws protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities.

The Park District does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its programs, services, activities or employment practices. The Park District is committed to providing equal opportunity and access and will make reasonable modifications when necessary to provide individuals with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate, unless doing so would fundamentally alter the nature of a program, service or activity.

Effective Communication & Digital Accessibility

Wilmette Park District is committed to providing effective communication for individuals with disabilities. When necessary to ensure equal access to Park District programs, services and activities, appropriate auxiliary aids and services based on the individual’s needs and the nature of the communication will be provided.

The Park District works to make its website, online registration, digital documents and other electronic content accessible. Individuals who need an auxiliary aid or service are encouraged to contact the Park District in advance whenever possible so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

The Park District’s ADA responsibilities apply to all of its programs, services, activities and facilities.

If you experience difficulty accessing information or content on the Park District’s website or other digital services because of a disability, please contact us. We will work with you to provide the information or assistance you need.

ADA Transition Plan & Accessibility Improvements

Wilmette Park District is committed to identifying and addressing barriers to accessibility throughout its parks, facilities, programs and services. Wilmette Park District has also established an ADA improvement procedure to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging discrimination on the basis of disability or a violation of the ADA.

The District maintains an ADA Transition Plan that identifies accessibility barriers and establishes priorities and plans for addressing those barriers. The plan is reviewed and updated periodically as the District works toward improving accessibility. These improvements are incorporated into the District’s planning and capital improvement efforts and are completed as resources and priorities permit.

Any individual who believes they have encountered an accessibility barrier in a Park District park, facility, program or service or been excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or otherwise subjected to discrimination because of a disability in connection with a Park District program, service, activity or facility may file an ADA improvement form.

Forms should be submitted to the Park District’s ADA Coordinator as soon as possible following the alleged violation. Reasonable assistance will be provided to individuals who need help submitting.
If you encounter an accessibility barrier in a Park District park, facility, program or service, please let us know so we can evaluate the concern and determine appropriate next steps.
