PARK DISTRICT INFORMATION
Accessibility & Inclusion
Everybody Always
Wilmette Park District is committed to providing welcoming, accessible parks, facilities, programs, services and digital content for people of all abilities.
We welcome people with and without disabilities to participate in our programs, activities and events. When a disability creates a barrier to participation, we will work with individuals and families to provide reasonable accommodations and appropriate inclusion support.
If you have accessibility or inclusion need, please let us know. We are here to help.
Inclusion Services & Reasonable Accommodations
Wilmette Park District provides reasonable accommodations to help individuals with disabilities participate in Park District programs, services and activities.
Accommodations and inclusion support may include:
- Program modifications or adaptations
- Modified equipment
- Staff training
- Program observations
- Communication support
- Other reasonable accommodations based on an individual’s needs
Inclusion services provided through the Park District and Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA) are available at no additional cost to the participant.
Requesting an Accommodation
When registering for a program, please indicate if an accommodation or inclusion support is needed by selecting, “Yes. Participant requires special accommodations” in the drop-down menu while registering online.
We encourage individuals and families to register and make requests at least two weeks before the start of a program or activity whenever possible. This allows staff time to understand the participant’s needs and coordinate appropriate support. Requests made with less than two weeks’ notice will still be considered. However, additional time may be needed to arrange appropriate accommodations or support.
NSSRA Inclusion Services
Wilmette Park District is a partner of the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA), which provides recreation programs and inclusion services for children, teens and adults with disabilities.
NSSRA works with the Park District, participants and families to help individuals participate successfully in Wilmette Park District programs and activities. Inclusion support may include staff training, program modifications, adapted equipment, program observations and, when appropriate, an inclusion companion.

ADA Transition Plan & Accessibility Improvements
Wilmette Park District is committed to identifying and addressing barriers to accessibility throughout its parks, facilities, programs and services.
The District maintains an ADA Transition Plan that identifies accessibility barriers and establishes priorities and plans for addressing those barriers. The plan is reviewed and updated periodically as the District works toward improving accessibility. These improvements are incorporated into the District’s planning and capital improvement efforts and are completed as resources and priorities permit.

If you encounter an accessibility barrier in a Park District park, facility, program or service, please let us know so we can evaluate the concern and determine appropriate next steps.
ADA Grievance Procedure
Wilmette Park District has established an ADA grievance procedure to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging discrimination on the basis of disability or a violation of the ADA.
Any individual who believes they have been excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or otherwise subjected to discrimination because of a disability in connection with a Park District program, service, activity or facility may file an ADA grievance.
Grievances should be submitted to the Park District’s ADA Coordinator as soon as possible following the alleged violation. Reasonable assistance will be provided to individuals who need help submitting a grievance.
