Wilmette Park District Executive Director Steve Wilson Resigns
January 6, 2025—Wilmette Park District Executive Director Steve Wilson announced today that he will leave the Park District on Jan. 31. He informed the Park District Board of his plans in December and notified District staff in a memo today.
Wilson told staff members in his message: “As we begin the new year, I want to share that I have decided to start a new chapter of my professional career and will leave my position as Executive Director at the Wilmette Park District, effective January 31. This decision comes after extensive discussions and planning with the Board of Park Commissioners and with careful consideration with my family.”
The Park Board accepted Wilson’s resignation and informed Park District staff that it is already starting a comprehensive search for a new leader. “After receiving Steve’s resignation letter, the Park Board’s top priority is to hire an interim executive director who will support Park District staff, oversee operations, and ensure the continuity of quality services for our residents,” said Park Board President Kara Kosloskus.
She added that the Park Board is committed to identifying a new executive director who will continue the Park District’s commitment to quality services and creative approaches to meeting the recreation, health and wellness needs of residents of all ages and abilities.
Wilson praised his staff in his announcement. “As I transition from this role, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the outstanding staff members I have enjoyed working with. Their dedication and professionalism have made my tenure rewarding, and together, we have fostered a strong sense of community,” he said. He also praised his wife, Cheryl, for her strong support during his service and as they raised their family in Wilmette. “I look forward to witnessing the Wilmette Park District’s continued success and positive impact on our community in the coming years.”
