Drone Show Announcement

Like many in our community, we were disappointed that severe weather led to the cancellation of this year’s July 3 Fun & Fireworks celebration.

 

Following the cancellation, we explored a variety of options to determine whether we could safely and responsibly bring back a community sky celebration later this year. After evaluating available dates, event logistics and resources, we determined the best opportunity to bring the community together was during the 5th Anniversary of the Wilmette Block Party. Held in the heart of downtown Wilmette, the Block Party offers a central, accessible gathering place where residents can easily join in the celebration.

 

On Saturday, August 29, Wilmette Park District will present the Village’s first-ever synchronized drone show as a special feature of this year’s event.

 

Funds originally allocated for this year’s fireworks will support the drone light show, offering the community a unique experience while continuing the tradition of lighting up the night sky in 2026. The patriotic-themed show will celebrate America 250. Rather than rescheduling July 3, we chose to enhance one of Wilmette’s signature events and make this year’s Block Party even more memorable.

 

Our traditional July 3 Fun & Fireworks celebration will return in 2027, and we look forward to celebrating Independence Day together at Gillson Park once again.
