At the Early Childhood Center, children learn in a place where each child meets with approval and success. Our teachers offer children a variety of individual, small and large group activities.

The Wilmette Park District's Early Childhood Center is located at 3000 Glenview Road, in the Community Recreation Center. We offer a Morning and Full-Day Preschool programs and coordinate before and after-school programs for school-age children in grades K-6.

Our morning two, three, and four-year-old Preschool programs meet two or three days a week. We also offer a Morning Preschool program with a mix of older 3 & 4 year-olds, which meets five days a week. Our Preschool Plus option extends the day until 1 p.m. Our Full-Day Preschool program is for three and four-year-olds and meets two, three or five days per week.

"Beyond the Bell," our before and after-school programs for school-age children, include Morning CARE@Schools and after-school C.A.R.E., which meet two, three or five days per week. For C.A.R.E., the Park District provides bus service for students from Wilmette public and parochial schools. We also offer an after-school program named Campus Club at Romona and McKenzie schools and the Centennial Recreation Complex, which meets three or five days per week.

Early Childhood of Wilmette programs are licensed under the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and follow strict COVID-19 guidelines to ensure that our children stay healthy and safe.

All of our programs run in person. We have the following safety protocols in place:

  • Children are required to wear masks, social distance and engage in frequent handwashing.
  • A daily health screening is required to participate in our programs.
  • Children remain in their pod throughout the day, and classrooms have been designed to promote hands-on learning and fun while remaining safe.
