Warmer Weather Means Busier Parks — Let’s Keep Them Safe for Everyone!

As the weather warms up and more people are out enjoying our beautiful outdoor spaces, the safety of all our patrons is a top priority at the Wilmette Park District. Please take a moment to review and follow these important rules that help keep our parks welcoming and safe for everyone.

No Motorized Vehicles / Bicycles Riding in Parks or Parking Lots

To protect pedestrians, children and wildlife, operating bicycles and motorized vehicles, including e-bikes, minibikes, electric scooters and go-carts on Wilmette Park District properties where signage prohibits their use violates Park District Ordinances. This includes:

  • Grass areas, including the Wilmette Golf Course and ball fields
  • Gravel park paths and trails
  • Parking lots (other than transportation or parking purposes)
  • Shared recreation areas and common spaces, including playgrounds and tennis courts

These vehicles can create significant safety risks and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of our parks. If you enter a park area, please dismount and walk your device or park it in the appropriate designated areas.

Dogs Must Be Leashed at All Times

For the safety of all park users, both human and canine, dogs are required to be leashed at all times while on public property, including all Wilmette parks and facilities. A leash:

  • Prevents uninvited interactions with other people or animals
  • Respects the comfort and safety of others who may fear dogs
  • Protects your pet from running into traffic or dangerous areas
  • Helps avoid encounters with disease-carrying waste or wildlife

Even the most obedient dogs can act unpredictably. A leash ensures everyone can enjoy our parks with peace of mind.

Patrons can call the Village non-emergency number at 847-256-1200 to report misuse of vehicles in the parks or dogs off-leash. If you feel that you or someone else is in danger, call 911.
