Wilmette Gymnastics Standout: Casey Takacs Makes Program History with Eastern Nationals Qualification
Wilmette Park District gymnast Casey Takacs has reached a milestone that no one in the program has achieved before:
qualifying for USA Gymnastics Eastern Nationals. Casey earned her spot with an outstanding postseason performance. She started at the Illinois State Meet, where she scored 34.375 in the all-around, easily surpassing the 32.00 needed to move on to Regionals.
A Breakthrough Performance at Regionals
At the Level 9 Regional Championships in Columbus, Ohio, Casey represented Team Illinois in the Junior 6 age group. Region 5, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky, is known for having some of the toughest competition in the country. This makes Casey’s performance even more impressive.
She delivered strong routines across all four events:
- Vault: 9.175 (15th)
- Bars: 9.35 (3rd)
- Beam: 9.225 (4th)
- Floor: 8.975 (7th)
- All-Around: 36.725 (2nd place)
Her second-place all-around finish put her among the top seven athletes in her age group and earned her a coveted spot at Eastern Nationals. With this achievement, Casey is the first gymnast in Wilmette Gymnastics history to reach Eastern Nationals. She will travel to Savannah, Georgia from April 30 to May 3 to compete as part of the Level 9 Junior 6 Region 5 Dream Team, representing the region on a national stage.
Growing Through the Program
Casey’s journey reflects years of dedication within the Wilmette program. She started gymnastics at age six, moving from recreational classes to Rising Stars, and then joining the competitive team at Level 4. Her steady progress in the program led to this historic moment.
A Love for the Sport
When asked about her favorite event, Casey answered right away:
“My favorite event is Bars. This is because there are so many cool skills you can learn. There will never be a time when I do not have a new Bars skill to try and learn.”
Her passion showed in her Regional performance, where she placed third on bars, one of her strongest events.
She also talked about the challenges of competing at a high level:
“The hardest skill I had to learn was my Bail on Bars. I originally learned a Pak, but had to adjust and change my skill due to a mental block, which I have overcome.”
Perspective and Pride
For Casey, competing at this level means more than just scores. It is about recognizing the opportunity:
“I am most proud of being able to do what probably only 4% of people get the opportunity to do—compete at a high level.”
Her commitment to training, from attending summer gymnastics camps to working hard at practice, has helped her reach this stage.
Looking Ahead
Casey continues to set new goals:
“My goal for the upcoming season is to compete at Level 10 and to be positive about what I am accomplishing at every meet and practice, hopefully leading me to Nationals in 2027.”
A Historic Moment for Wilmette Gymnastics
Casey’s qualification for Eastern Nationals is a big achievement for her and for the whole Wilmette Gymnastics program. It shows the strength of the program and the dedication of its athletes and coaches. As Casey prepares to compete on the national stage, the Wilmette community will cheer for her and celebrate this historic accomplishment.
