Wilmette Park District Receives National Recognition for Seventeenth Consecutive Year for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Wilmette Park District is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (COA) by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. This prestigious recognition was awarded for the Park District’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2023.

Wilmette Park District has received this honor for seventeen consecutive years, reflecting the organization’s commitment to financial transparency, accountability, and sound fiscal stewardship.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. According to the GFOA, its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government agency and its management.

The award was granted to us on December 17, 2024 following a rigorous review process conducted by members of the GFOA staff and the GFOA Special Review Committee, which includes professionals with expertise in public sector financial reporting. Reviewers ensure each report complies with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and GFOA program policy. Only reports that substantially meet these high standards, particularly those demonstrating a “spirit of full disclosure” are eligible for the award.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program was established in 1945 to assist and encourage local governments in preparing annual comprehensive financial reports that exceed the minimum requirements. The goal is not to assess the participating entity’s financial health but to ensure that stakeholders and users of the financial statements have access to the information necessary for their evaluation.

“We are honored to once again be recognized by the GFOA,” said Sheila Foy, Wilmette Park District Superintendent of Finance. “This award affirms our dedication to maintaining the highest standards in financial reporting and transparency for the Wilmette community.”
