    Tai Chi for the Older Adult

    Learn a basic form of Tai Chi and other techniques designed to energize the body, reduce and manage stress, improve balance, coordination and flexibility. The regular practice of this system of movements can facilitate harmonious energy flow throughout the body, enhancing one's physical and emotional well-being. This class will be held outdoors at the Mallinckrodt Gazebo, please dress for the weather and bring a filled water bottle. In case of inclement weather, class will be brought indoors.     Life can be fast-paced and slowing down can be hard. Enjoy a gentle yoga practice that will focus on slow movements to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body while keeping your mind alert and sharp. Thoughtful movements performed while seated, on hands and knees, standing, and lying down, will help build a mind/body connection in a supportive environment. These gentle, guided movements and stretches will improve flexibility, strength, and balance, and will increase blood circulation, decrease stress, improve cognitive brain function and memory, and prevent pain. This peaceful practice will be set to calming, restorative music. *All movements can be performed seated in a chair. Instructor will guide these students in a comparable chair yoga practice.     Navigate techniques, materials, color, drawing and inspiration to paint in the medium of watercolor. Students at all levels will have fun creating satisfying projects in watercolor and building their skills. Our instructor, Nancy Rose, studied at the American Academy of Art and the Evanston Art Center. She has been painting in watercolor for decades, and has been teaching private clients for many years.
