Project Parks and Play Approved –
Staff prepares to implement Comprehensive and Strategic Plans
7/31/24 –The Wilmette Park District Board of Park Commissioners approved the Comprehensive and Strategic Plans at their July 8 meeting. The plans are the product of Project Parks and Play: Explore the Possibilities, an initiative from October 2022 designed to produce a 10-year comprehensive plan with reviews and recommendations for Park District facilities and open spaces and a 5-year strategic plan with reviews and recommendations for operations and programming.
“These plans provide a road map to guide the future of Wilmette Park District’s parks, facilities, recreational activities and operations to best meet the future needs of the Wilmette community,” said Wilmette Park District Executive Director Steve Wilson. “We are on a solid path to address needs identified by our residents and further elevate our programs and services.”
The following week, BerryDunn, the Project Parks and Play consultant, held a kick-off meeting to begin implementing the plans. During the meeting, the consultants outlined the initial steps, focusing on prioritizing projects based on community feedback and resource allocation.
Project Parks and Play: Explore the Possibilities started with several feedback sessions, open houses, interactive website programs and a community survey. After initial plans were drafted, residents had an additional opportunity to provide expanded feedback. That information shaped the final Comprehensive and Strategic Plans.
“We are grateful to our community for sharing so much of their time and input throughout this project,” said Kara Kosloskus, President of the Board of Park Commissioners. “This has been a two-year, collaborative process and now, with the Plans finalized, we are all looking forward to the future as we start implementing these great ideas!”
