“Signing Off” on a Legacy: CFC Members Commemorate the Studio Floor Prior to Its Renovation

As part of the Community Recreation Center’s ongoing restoration project, the Center Fitness Club (CFC) has prepared for a significant update: replacing the studio floor that has supported thousands of workouts, memories, and milestones over its 30-year history. Before its removal, CFC members were invited to sign their names, share messages and express gratitude to a foundational element of the Club that has supported decades of fitness and community.

Members adorned the studio with messages of gratitude, encouragement and nostalgia. Some expressed appreciation for the floor’s role in their first fitness class, while others referenced shared experiences from early-morning workouts. Many simply wrote “thank you,” a phrase that encapsulated the significance of the space in their lives.

The impromptu signing event continued CFC’s 30th Anniversary celebration, a milestone that honors both the Club’s history and the individuals who have shaped it. Since its opening in 1995, CFC has evolved beyond a basic collection of equipment and schedules. Prior to the establishment of a dedicated facility, fitness programs were located in various spaces across Centennial, Highcrest and other available areas. Renovations, new rooms, updated equipment and expanded offerings have transformed CFC into its present form. Throughout these changes, the sense of community has remained constant.

This sense of community was evident during the floor signing. Members shared laughter as they wrote their messages. Staff recounted memories from their earliest classes, and newer members contributed notes alongside long-standing regulars.

“CFC has truly grown with our community for 30 years,” says Fitness Manager Liz Antman. “We always listen to our members, and moments like this show how much heart they bring to this space. Seeing them reflect on what the studio means to them was very special.”

As the restoration project progresses and the new floor is installed, the space will appear refreshed in the months ahead. Its purpose remains the same: to bring people together, support their goals and continue building friendships and memories that last far beyond the studio walls.

CFC’s 30th Anniversary commemorates both its history and its future. With new programming, special events and member challenges planned for 2026, the Club anticipates continued growth.
